    Why Mississippi?

  • While the population is 2,976,000 + million people in the state, only around 750,000 (probably less) attend any church on any given Sunday.

  • With 37 active Christian Churches in the 1970’s there are only 27 active Christian Churches today.

  • The best way to reach new people is through new churches. An established church takes 50 people to reach 1 new people. In new churches that number is 13 people to reach 1 new person. (NAMB report 2013 among Southern Baptist Churches. Other dominations report similar findings.)

  • We must, therefore, plant new churches for new people.

    Why Plant?

  1. The Great Commission Mandate
Jesus, the one with ALL authority, said to go, make disciples of all nations.
    Matthew 28:18-20

  2. A Biblical Model
In the book of Acts, we read of Paul, Peter, Luke and others setting the example of church planting in the first century.

  3. An Effective Model
New churches are the most effective way to reach unbelievers with the Gospel.
(Ed Stetzer, The Exchange, Why Established Churches Should Plant Churches, Christianity Today, May 20, 2021)

  4. Revitalizing Existing Churches
Church Planting can revitalize existing churches by renewing a vision for reaching lost people.

  5. Church Legacy
You, or someone in your family, came to Jesus through a church plant. Since the book of Acts, everyone has come to Christ because someone was touched by a church plant or a church planter.

  6. Church History
Based on church history, every church in America is a church plant.

  7. The Unchurched (i.e., the lost) in America
Those who are without Jesus in America need us to plant new churches. Today North America is the 3rd largest mission field in the world. Only India & China have more unbelievers.
(Mark Powers blog post, America is now the #1 Mission Field in the World, July 2014)
